No, not unless you want it to. Wissano runs entirely on your infrastructure. With local models via Ollama, even the AI processing stays in-house. Only if you deliberately choose an external API provider do requests go there, and even then only the relevant text passages.
Wissano answers exclusively from your documents and backs every statement with a clickable source. You can verify any answer at the original passage with one click. If the system finds no suitable basis, it says so openly instead of making something up.
A normal server is enough for search and knowledge preparation. For fluent chat answers with local models a GPU is recommended, common models already run well on cards with 8 GB of memory. Alternatively, start with an external API and switch to local models later without rebuilding anything.
Installation takes minutes with Docker. After that it depends on your documents: upload, organize spaces, invite the team. Many companies ask their knowledge the first questions on the very same day.
PDF, Word (docx), Excel (xlsx), CSV, text and Markdown, up to 50 MB per file. Scanned PDFs without a text layer are read by the built-in OCR, which runs fully offline. Content is automatically extracted, split into sections and prepared for search.
Yes. With folder sources, Wissano imports entire directories as knowledge sources, for example an Obsidian vault or a file share on the server. Content is kept in sync manually or on a schedule: new files are added, changed ones reprocessed, deleted ones removed. Your original files remain untouched.
